20 Basic Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows


Do you use a computer regularly? If you do a ton of typing, you can save a great deal of time when working with your computer by using keyword shortcuts. I am a frequent computer user. While I use a mouse in working, I also use a lot of keyboard shortcuts. Working with computers using keyboard shortcuts is fast. I find it much faster than using mouse sometimes.

Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

You too can take advantage of the useful keyboard shortcuts that are available for everyone to use.When you familiarize yourself with these keyboard shortcut keys, it will save you the most possible time and effort.

Here are the Basic Keyboard shortcuts for Windows:
1. CTRL + A  - This highlights all the text on a page or in a text box.
2. CTRL + C   – This copies the highlighted text.
3. CTRL + V   – Pastes the text that you just copied from a website, a document or from anywhere else.
4. CTRL + P   –  Print command. This tells your computer to print the web page.
5. CTRL + D   – This saves a bookmark in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
6. CTRL + ESC  - Opens the Start menu
7. CTRL + F     – Opens the Find dialog box.
8. CTRL + Z     –  Undo the last action
9.  ALT + F4   – Closes the active program
10. ALT + Enter  - Display properties for the selected item
11. ALT + Space  - Open the shortcut menu for the active window
12. ALT + F4  - Closes the active program
13. ALT + Enter – Display properties for the selected item
14. ALT + Space – Open the shortcut menu for the active window
15. DELETE –  Delete the selected item and move it to the Recycle Bin Folder.
16.  SHIFT + DELETE - Delete the selected item permanently. Item is deleted without moving it to the Recycle Bin first
17.  HOME    -Moves to the beginning of the line or the beginning of the webpage, top portion.
18.  END    -Moves to the end of the line or moves the page to the bottom/end part.
19.   F5 - Refresh the active window
20.  ESC – Cancel the current task.

Once you familiarize yourself with these Windows Keyboard shortcuts, your work will be a lot faster. Although I should say that there are drawbacks to keyboard shortcuts also. I know there are too many keyboard shortcuts to memorize and they can differ between operating systems. The good thing is, you don’t have to memorize all of these computer keyboard shortcut keys, only those that you use most often. And if you find these keyboard shortcuts more comfortable than using your mouse, then using these will help you work more efficiently.
